WE CELEBRATE NERUDA

The Institute salutes the poet of a thousand faces.

It has been 48 years since the death of Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto, later Pablo Neruda, considered one of the most outstanding artists of the 20th century.

His work was not concentrated in the artistic field: Chilean senator, member of the central committee of the Communist Party, pre-candidate for the presidency in his country and, finally, ambassador to France; throughout his life he practiced freedom as a bulwark and proclaimed equality as a mission.

We all remember his poetic work, considered by his friend García Lorca the best of his time, such as his book "Veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada"; politically, he always prioritized the validity of human rights expressed through his indignation for poverty, which led him to militancy and public service. His literary work shows his indignation for the vulnerability of human beings and the unnecessary force of the powerful.

The Institute salutes the poet of a thousand faces.
